There’s just no joy like finding a completely unheard of true story for the first time; one that changed so many peoples perspectives!

Tonight I found Te Ata on Netflix. The story of Mary Thompson Fisher “Te Ata” and her passion for the stage. She brought her Native American stories centerstage, literally, in a time when their stories were purposely being erased.

Watching this left me with a beautiful feeling of learning a person’s true story sharing her culture with the public in such a passionate and real way.

Mrs. Roosevelt brought her to the White House for a performance after seeing her at a small party.

In an amazing way, these performances began to influence laws. She was stirring up appreciation and respect, showing room for cultural differences through education.

Thankfully, Eleanor Roosevelt saw the beauty in Mary Thompson Fisher’s authentic storytelling.

She was bringing the Chickasaw Tribe story to the stage, in a time when the tribes rituals were actually being outlawed.

This is definitely a True Story worth reading more into.

There’s a lake in NY named after Te Ata, her induction into the Chickasaw Hall of Fame, her performance for the Queen of England,….so much beauty, and almost an unheard of story in our American History books.

  1. How beautiful! I would have loved to do an interview with Mrs. Fisher – her story sounds so unique and interesting. I would have loved to hear from her – in her own words – what her work meant to her, and what she thought about the immense legacy she left.
