So I’ve been saying I’m “Concerted Out” for quite a few years now. Long story short, lets just say I saw lots and lots of the 80s hair bands back in the day. So much so, that I ended up taking almost a 20 year concert break.
Oh, that came to an end last night!! With the goal of gifting my young adult kids an experience rather than another $50 stocking stuffer that ends up on the floor somewhere, I went with the shared activity gift idea this year.
Pentatonix did not disappoint!! Wow, what a beautiful night! There’s just nothing like hearing a group like this sharing their God given gift in such a dynamic and beautiful holiday concert. Their voices are so Magical together!
Today I’m so thankful for the gift of time together with ones we love. There’s just no replacement for the gift of a shared experience. Sorry Macys, my kids aren’t getting store gifts this Holiday season.

Thank you again CBS News Sunday Morning for the piece about the “Young at Heart” choir. I remember seeing another story a while back on them too. You can’t ever get enough of this kind of inspiration! A singing group where the average age is 85, and to see the smiles and energy the choir is bringing to these singers.

It’s rainy and pretty gloomy here today, but just looking back at this story instantly brightened up my morning. With my mom passing in her early 50s I do think about age more than I used to, especially as I’m creeping up on that same age. Just to see this choir makes you realize there’s people out there that are still trying to make a difference, enjoy life, and keep their energy up in their golden years.

Now I’m reading that there’s a 2008 documentary for this group too. Adding this to my must watch list. It’s just so inspiring to hear and know about lives like these. We see so much of the complete opposite on the news,…..it leaves me speechless anymore. So, this is going on my personal goals list, to find activities like this that keep you active and fully engaged.

Ok, fine,….yes, I grew up watching Saturday morning cartoons. The days of Underdog, the Justice League, Looney Toons, and the Pink Panther. No, I don’t feel traumatized from those days, rather I think back and see that I can still sit down and watch them, and I kind of like the feeling of simplicity and entertainment they bring.
Ok, Underdog is much goofy than I remember, so maybe there’s hope that I’ve grown up a little. 😬
But in all honesty, after all these years of being gradually overwhelmed with 24/7 world news channels and limitless abilities to Google anything at any time, it’s taken its toll on my mental peace. There’s a quote from a retired FBI forensic psychiatrist, that presented a Workplace Violence seminar at my old job, that just keeps coming back to mind:
“In a single one-way commute to work, our minds and eyes experience more stimuli than our grandparents did in an entire week.”
So as I’m feeling worn out by all the reported murders locally, the hit and runs, the kids who have been abused and neglected, and all the other negative hateful news that comes in a typical day….I’m finding peace today in the fact that my mind has retained a childlike way of enjoying the simplicity and wanting to find the love and joy, and looking for ways to spread it.
Philippians 4:6-7
Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Oh, I could go deep into this overflowing well of my mind today, but I’m not up for it. No, today is Friday, and I’ve gotten so many good things accomplished this week! Today I’m going to roll with my nature and let the light hearted feelings win out!
My teenage daughter was teasing me last night about me being so goofy! She’s saying now that she’s also goofy, and it’s somehow my fault! HA! It was an awesome conversation about who’s cool, and who isn’t,…and how apparently Cool isn’t the first word that my personality brings to mind. But you know what, we were laughing almost the entire time during this conversation last night! I’ll take that anytime!
When you’re wired to be light hearted, enjoy the simple things, and absolutely love to laugh,….I’m voting that you let that resurface in everyday life. Throughout my healing journey here laughter and joy is starting to resurface, and today I’m ever so thankful for it.
