During this Thanksgiving week, I’m not going to focus on the American version of the first Thanksgiving meal. No, I’ve actually become too educated on the real history of the relationships between the Europeans and the Native Americans to even want to talk about that right now.
Instead, I want to keep it more personal. I’m currently reading an amazing book by Brene Brown, The Gifts of Imperfection. One of her quotes in here is really sticking out to me, and I want to share.
When going through any kind of emotional healing process, dealing with the self-doubts, the negative all around us, I’m going to try hard to keep this quote in mind.
We all crave Belonging, it’s in our DNA, our nature, a basic need for all of us. Wouldn’t it be an amazing world if we all found peace in imperfection? I know I’ve worn myself out trying to pretend, in so many ways, to be more than I really am.
So this week of traditional Thanksgiving here in the US, I’m thankful that with a lot of help, I’m finally starting to grow, and honestly be comfortable in my own imperfection. To be surrounded by others who are genuine, sincere, forgiving, and authentic is all I can ever hope for.
Happy Thanksgiving week everyone!
