During this Thanksgiving week, Iโ€™m not going to focus on the American version of the first Thanksgiving meal. No, Iโ€™ve actually become too educated on the real history of the relationships between the Europeans and the Native Americans to even want to talk about that right now.

Instead, I want to keep it more personal. Iโ€™m currently reading an amazing book by Brene Brown, The Gifts of Imperfection. One of her quotes in here is really sticking out to me, and I want to share.

When going through any kind of emotional healing process, dealing with the self-doubts, the negative all around us, Iโ€™m going to try hard to keep this quote in mind.

We all crave Belonging, itโ€™s in our DNA, our nature, a basic need for all of us. Wouldnโ€™t it be an amazing world if we all found peace in imperfection? I know Iโ€™ve worn myself out trying to pretend, in so many ways, to be more than I really am.

So this week of traditional Thanksgiving here in the US, Iโ€™m thankful that with a lot of help, Iโ€™m finally starting to grow, and honestly be comfortable in my own imperfection. To be surrounded by others who are genuine, sincere, forgiving, and authentic is all I can ever hope for.
