Oh, I try not to get too wordy and ramble on and on, but it definitely pops up in my writing from time to time! It’s when you get a little too excited about a topic, and you have so many words that you want to use to describe it to everyone. 😬 Along with my pursuit of truly healing and getting healthy these past couple of years, I’ve been using long lost family research to help out; all the stories, good and not so good.

Honestly, I believe we’re meant to know about our families. It’s so common now for us Independent creatures to either not know, or possibly to not care about where we came from, and the tales that happened along the way. I’m fortunate enough that most all of my family came to the US and stayed in the same area for 200 years plus, so when I dug into the newspapers site all kinds of information popped up. There are the ads for “tomatoes for sale” from grandpa’s garden in the 1950s, to the “families visiting each other“ in the weekend posts.

My version became overwhelming fast! I went from knowing almost nothing about the large families I came from to seeing so much information I didn’t know where to start with it all. Tell you what though, it is very healing! I don’t care so much about whether it’s an article about a great uncle stealing a horse, numerous Revolutionary War veterans found in the line, or an actual cousin living in the next county over that I had no idea existed,….It just feels like it was meant to be known.

My close friends have heard me say it before, so this is a repeat of a thought. If I could give everyone I meet a gift, it would be to do some family research for them. It feels so natural and right to know where we came from. If you don’t know your history how can you move forward in knowledge and strength?

  1. Great post – as I too believe that it’s important to know your history, and to have family in your life so that one day that will be part of the next generation’s history.
